Nasty bass thing

Post by DollarBill »

Slowly getting closer to getting it to sound like something. Of course, it's always more limiting when you record it all at once / live like this instead of working up one sound to track in the DAW and use MIDI to sync things so there are less limitations based on which modules I got, but the challenge of "all at once" makes it more fun.

Thank you! The kick is an analog low pass filter with the resonance turned way up. Hit the audio input with a quick burst of voltage while also giving the note and filter cutoff a quick downward curve, and there you go.

Gotta love the sounds you get out of the devices! I'm all about the software myself and Reason has a virtual hardware architecture, but still, something cool about having physical hardware.

Rats and wasps scurrying around doing their own business.

You've got a beat there. Good production. Your previous stuff was cool because it left room to add guitar which in turn added beat and measure to what you had done. The tracks were really fun to play along with. This one might be a bit more difficult

Yeah I've always tended to fill up voids, I try to leave space and show restraint, but there's always one more something that could fill that gap...

Software is so good these days, and the Relative Rabbit stuff I've been working on would be impossible without it, but the hardware in this format is more like a fun puzzle where there's no picture on the box of what it will look like when done, and no corner pieces to guide you. I know I can make "better" music in the DAW, but these wired up jams are just too much fun.

Something more minimal, no real empty space, but that could be adjusted with a twist of a dial. However, comma, very few cables means less futzing, heh.

Pure accident, which is why it's fun. I wanted to do more filter pinging, but had no idea putting the distorted filter through a second vowel filter would sound like that. I might have to mess with part of this chain a little more before pulling it all apart.

Sounds like it's about to erupt into some mental breakcore tune, like Venetian Snares or summat. Couldn't have resisted throwing an Amen break on this myself, but I guess if you're just sticking to the rack set-up, that's a bit trickier.... unless there's a module that can do programmable percussive stuff? Could be a fun idea anyway.

If/When I want to develop something, best way is to record it into the DAW and either add stuff there or sync MIDI to the noodle box and have another go with more tracks. However, comma, getting it to spit out something all at once is rewarding, a fun puzzle, even if the noise that comes out isn't as refined or developed.

So…. dBill ….
I’ve scored a ES -3 adat to cv module, I’m picking up a Jomox modbase and kick module and I grabbed a Ladik F510 filter.

No days off until Friday… 10 days in a row! And I’m on the losing side of a political work thing.

Excellent! I've only barely looked at a proper midi to cv thing, but the Expert Sleepers ones would be my first go to. I have 2 things that can get me 2 channels worth of CV/gate, which has been enough for now. Might get the expander for Pam's though, not for the DIN out, but just for more clock outs, never seem to have enough and I'd rather use the outputs of Pam's for the weirder things than simple contant triggers. Also, I need more percussion if I'm going to do that (maybe a Rample?), but first I might need another powered case. Delivery this week on a new table that can handle the added weight, first step since existing synth table top is bending under the weight.

Yeah. I have no space for any of this.

I want to have all my Arturia/Modular stuff together, but it would take up all my desk real estate. I have lots of ‘storage/holding space but the ‘workspace’ is limited. But now that my flat mate has moved out (mostly… he’s left some stuff behind) I could have multiple ‘workspaces’!
