About to get back on the road
This is my rig these days. This was pre pandemic. We were picking up loads in Miami and taking them out to the Canadian border in Washington State. There, another outfit would run them up to Vancouver for the cruise ships going to Alaska. Occasionally we would run the stuff to the port of Seattle. Thats where this picture was taken.
Thats a 2018 Volvo Tractor with an Auto Transmission. First auto I was ever in. Before that I was in a 13 speed and before that a 10 speed.
When I am on the road, I probably won't post here. It's long hours and I push pretty hard. I drive for 10 and a half hours, plus I can be on duty for up to 14 hours so it's long days. Then I shut down for 10 hours then go again. I like to start at 3 or 4 AM so I can shut down early. Makes it easier to find parking at the end of the day.

I fixed this for you. It seems you don't need the [img] tags with your pics - and i put a free line between your postings and the actual texts.

I tried it without them and only a link showed up. I was trying a link from IMGUR though. Can I just drop a pic in from my computer? I was thinking of how we had to do it in the old days. Also will it support the new iPhone format.

Yes you can, go to attachments at the bottom, in full editor and add pic, and it loads upTrobador222 wrote: Tue Dec 01, 2020 6:31 pm I tried it without them and only a link showed up. Re: About to get back on the road
I have a comfortable bunk in there. Got a mini fridge. Right above the fridge is a little table that slides out, so these days with the shit virus, I can eat my meals right there sitting on the bunk. It climbs a hill well and going down the long steep mountain passes I can set it up with lower gear and compression brakes so I dont have to use the real brakes very much.
I drive for a small company owned by a family from the Ukraine. Most of the drivers are from there or Russia. Sometimes when I am at the terminal, everyone is speaking Russian. That was a little odd at first. But they are all nice folks and the owner cares about the welfare of his people. It's a good place to work.

Nice one, sounds like you're in a good spot, decent rig to be driving, think I mentioned my brother drives the big rigs too, but he was doing agency for tesco, he hasn't been there since March though, due to the virus. He was on nights also...more moneyTrobador222 wrote: Tue Dec 01, 2020 6:53 pmI have a comfortable bunk in there. Got a mini fridge. Re: About to get back on the road
A friend of mine was born in the US to German parents, then moved back to the EU as a child and was raised there. He spent years driving a truck in the EU. He would take runs down into Turkey all the time. He eventually went to collage and moved back to the US and is a teacher here now.Ifunkus wrote: Tue Dec 01, 2020 7:01 pmNice one, sounds like you're in a good spot, decent rig to be driving, think I mentioned my brother drives the big rigs too, but he was doing agency for tesco, he hasn't been there since March though, due to the virus. Does your brother do long haul? Thats what I do exclusively. I usually stay out for 2 to 3 weeks then I am home for 5 to 7 days. Of course here in the US, our long haul can be 3500 miles, one way. Thats what I do now. It's kind of a specialty. Our owner Vlad and all the rest of the Ukrainian and Russian folks originally lived in Oregon so he has a ton of business ties out there.

Re: About to get back on the road
My bro was just doing night shifts 14 hours usually, strict regulations though, he would drive the depth and breath all around ireland, but remember ireland is small, so going from dublin you could reach the coast in about 4 hours in any direction, he'd usually do two runs a night and finish up doing a couple of handy runs in a ridged. Its handy for him but he really wants to do his own thing,Trobador222 wrote: Tue Dec 01, 2020 7:08 pmA friend of mine was born in the US to German parents, then moved back to the EU as a child and was raised there. Re: About to get back on the road
Nice! We are super regulated about our hours. We can legally drive 11 hours in a 14 hour on duty day. Then we have to take a 10 hour break. We can drive 70 hours in 8 days and if we want the full 70 hours back, we take a 34 hour break. It normal takes me 5 and a half days to go from Florida to the NW. Now with the virus, there are some exceptions to the rules. Food and medical supplies are exempt so I came back from Washington to Florida in 4 and a half days the last trip. That can be brutal. I run long out west, where the roads are open and there is less congestion. I did a couple of 20 hour days then the last 2 and a half I could run normal again.

Very similar to my brothers regulations, that's some serious hauling ass business you got going on, man, I pray you are safe on the roadsTrobador222 wrote: Tue Dec 01, 2020 7:24 pm Nice! Re: About to get back on the road
In my travels, The longest drive I ever took was from Albany, GA to OKC. 950 miles, some 16 hours. I really wanted to kick that last 50 miles but I was blasted and the added 50 would have put me in the void west of OKC. Still that was one long day. I have been known to drive from western Arkansas to near Bristol, TN, take a couple hours then drive back. By the time I hit home I was blasted. Drop in bed and I could still hear the spacers in the interstate pavement.
I would love to get back to road trips and keep to the state or US highways, stay off the interstate. There much I have yet to see.
Henry, do you go through the 4 corners area? Or do you take the routes around I 80?

Re: About to get back on the road
I just went up through the 4 Corners area last trip. I stopped in Farmington NM. Thats when I went through Moab the other day. Normally I go up through 80 though. Unless Wyoming is too bad. Normal trip is work up to St Louis then across to Kansas City on 70, then up near Omaha and take 80 to 84. Then its either 84 to Portland, or cut off 82, up to I 90 to get to Seattle.
I'm leaving here in about an hour this morning. You boys try not to burn the place down while I'm gone!
