A song that is way over played (cover)

Post by Mr. Marty »

Well, I will not post a version Sound of Silence as it would put me in the sights of the licensing police.
Instead, here is a song made famous by the Animals, Dylan, and others but not written by any of them.
This one has a bit of a slower rhythm than the Animals version. It is not so dark but more moody.
It is also at the bottom end of my vocal range.

Enjoy

There’s lots of detail in your voice!
Well performed and well recorded.

Sounds great.

Edit: I’m i hearing correctly? There’s a tasteful amount of reverb on the guiter …. but none on the voice?(that’s my critical ear over analyzing!)

There are two tracks. One is the rhythm guitar and voice. There is reverb on that track but the mic was in a good position to catch the vocal detail. I intentionally kept the trck close, not dry but close. The reverb is there just very subtle. The second track is that lead guitar in the background. The reverb on that track was intended to be light with a distanced sound and just a small amount of reflection. I love the cakewalk reverb 2 tool. Very robust. The TDR EQs and various compressors are killer.

Thanks for the ear.

Wow, amazing 👏, this is the first time I've heard you sing Mrty, the song is completely your mello style, hnry done a version of amazing grace to the animals tune 🎶 I see the similarities in your husky sound, thanks for sharing, thoroughly enjoyed 😉😀😊

Been too long since I heard you sing. That was fantastic. Utterly clear recording, no plosive or sibilant issues on the vocal, beautifully transparent.

(Were I mixing, I'd keep the vocal nearly dry and upfront, but I'd use the same reverb on it and the guitar, to give that "they're in the same space" feeling. However, comma, that's just what I would try and then inevitably overcook it with one too many effects, and what the heck do I know  )

Just peeped this. I had to turn the volume up as it sounded so good I wanted to get the maximum out of this.
Your guitar is always very nice and you know what, your singing voice is brilliant! Enjoyed! :applause:

Aww come on, you've heard me sing before.
Thanks though. It is a bit low for me. The animals sang this an octave higher, something I cannot do without harming myself.

Thank man.

I really wanted the impression of the lead guitar sitting off to the side behind the singer. Kinda doing his thing alone and separated from the singer. Let that track play around in the remaining space. I thought it was dry enough, I even knock off some dry from the original mix down.

This was recorded last December on the Martin 000-28VS.

Thanks for the ear. MOrgan

Thanks Ash

So maybe I should stick to the lower part of my vocal range. It seems to get a better response.

...or is it just sympathy?
