When your mixing, do a slight pan separation with your drums and bass? I'm doing just a touch, about 3% one way and the other, but I think it makes them broader in the mix while still seeming like they are down the middle.

Thats interesting I might try that, I usually just use volume to make the drums or bass more prominent might pan them now for extra effect. Stereo would be an additive I might play with also, I'm just learning so just fingerings the bitch at the moment. Every day is a school day my friend
