I have a comfortable bunk in there. Got a mini fridge. Right above the fridge is a little table that slides out, so these days with the shit virus, I can eat my meals right there sitting on the bunk. It climbs a hill well and going down the long steep mountain passes I can set it up with lower gear and compression brakes so I dont have to use the real brakes very much.
I drive for a small company owned by a family from the Ukraine. Most of the drivers are from there or Russia. Sometimes when I am at the terminal, everyone is speaking Russian. That was a little odd at first. But they are all nice folks and the owner cares about the welfare of his people. It's a good place to work.
Nice one, sounds like you're in a good spot, decent rig to be driving, think I mentioned my brother drives the big rigs too, but he was doing agency for tesco, he hasn't been there since March though, due to the virus. He was on nights also...more money
A friend of mine was born in the US to German parents, then moved back to the EU as a child and was raised there. He spent years driving a truck in the EU. He would take runs down into Turkey all the time. He eventually went to collage and moved back to the US and is a teacher here now.
Does your brother do long haul? Thats what I do exclusively. I usually stay out for 2 to 3 weeks then I am home for 5 to 7 days. Of course here in the US, our long haul can be 3500 miles, one way. Thats what I do now. It's kind of a specialty. Our owner Vlad and all the rest of the Ukrainian and Russian folks originally lived in Oregon so he has a ton of business ties out there.
My bro was just doing night shifts 14 hours usually, strict regulations though, he would drive the depth and breath all around ireland, but remember ireland is small, so going from dublin you could reach the coast in about 4 hours in any direction, he'd usually do two runs a night and finish up doing a couple of handy runs in a ridged. Its handy for him but he really wants to do his own thing,
He's got a cnc machine, that does nice 3d wood carvings, also where I was a dj we have a load of vinyl, he can cut designs in them also. Heres an example, of what he made
