Re: The 10,000 Post Thread 3
Anyone got experience record two flutes at once? Or even one?
Asking for a friend.... they want to record a duet at their home and produce a Compact Disc.
If it wasn’t a covid blizzard out I’d record them at my place (maybe an option in a few months). I’ve got all the gear.

A bit of both. Their looking to do it themselves but I’m also able to offer to do it.
I’ve got the equipment just no experience.

I' ve never recorded a wind instrument before but I imaging it wouldn't be much differernt that a guitar on an open mic.
That said;
Place the mic 1 1/2 (half meter) away from the flute
maybe offset where there is no breath hitting the mic. Not sure I would use a pop filter but you could.
The dynamics may possibily be great so you might want to use a limiter though a well tuned compressor would be better and/or followed by a limiter.
Do test tracks to check levels and for clipping anywhere along the chain.
Decide whether you want room ambience included in the recording. Deteremines input levels and mic distance
I would use one mic for both flutes and record at the same time. Better if there are harmonizing parts. Look for vids on one mic recording.

Re: The 10,000 Post Thread 3
All things I’ve considered!
I’m going to suggest against the single mic approach. Two to three mics will give her more separation and flexibility at mixing.
I sent her a video example of what not to do. It’s a duet in a small room with one mic ... and while the performance is great the audio quality suffers. (Clipping and lots of room noise)
Also here’s a teen playing a 9 inch pink flute like a pro

Then why did you ask/
If the musicians adjust tone and volume while playing to get that "feel" 2 mic setup might not pick it up. Who knows the room may have some great acoustics.

Bought these because of the St Patrick's Day. This is the first time I celebrate it. I also take it to the Irish people (Ivan as example) - the cider on the pic is an Irish cider that I bought from Lidl.

I'm way beyond that. Calloused side of me thumb. I can make it sore if I try but never a full blowd blister.
